Navanex and Oneka technologies: working together to promote innovation and sustainable development

At Navanex, we’re proud to be involved in innovative projects that positively impact the planet. One of these major projects is our collaboration with Oneka Technologies to design their new desalination buoy. This partnership marks a significant step in our commitment to supporting innovative and sustainable technological solutions to global challenges.

Sustainable solutions to combat water scarcity

Oneka Technologies specializes in sustainable desalination powered by wave energy, a revolutionary technology transforming seawater into drinking water. Faced with growing water shortages in coastal communities around the world, this project meets an urgent need. With requests from over forty countries, Oneka is preparing to deploy its desalination buoys in particularly hard-hit regions such as Chile, Florida and California.

This new generation of buoys will be installed in Fort Bragg, California, where drinking water is becoming a scarce resource. This project represents an innovative solution for securing water supplies in an environmentally friendly way, by using wave energy to power the desalination buoys, while preserving the surrounding ecosystems.

Technology developed in Quebec for the world

Navanex was honoured to contribute to the design of this buoy alongside Oneka Technologies. The technology, developed and manufactured mainly in Quebec, highlights Quebec’s expertise and ability to export high-added-value solutions. Working with local suppliers, over 70% of the parts used in these buoys come from Quebec partners. Among these partners, Navanex was vital in optimizing the design, ensuring each buoy meets the performance and durability requirements.

A shared commitment to the future

Working with Oneka is part of a vision for the future in which technological innovation and environmental protection go hand in hand. This desalination buoy perfectly exemplifies our commitment to solutions that improve people’s lives while respecting natural resources. For Navanex, this project represents much more than a simple technical design. It contributes to a more sustainable future, where technological innovations help solve some of the world’s most significant challenges, such as access to drinking water.

Growth for Quebec and the rest of the world

The 50,000 sq. ft. production plant in Sherbrooke, where the first buoys were assembled, illustrates the scale of this project. It will enable Oneka to meet the growing demand in California and Chile and further export Quebec expertise.

With more than 50 employees already stationed in Sherbrooke and the possibility of several hundred more, Oneka’s expansion is a testament to the dynamism of the blue economy in Quebec. This project, supported by a passionate team and partners like Navanex, is paving the way for a new era of innovation in climate resilience.

A lasting collaboration

The collaboration between Navanex and Oneka Technologies goes far beyond the simple design of a buoy. It is a contribution to a future where access to drinking water is secured through environmentally friendly solutions. Together, we are showing how Quebec innovation can have a global impact and help solve the significant challenges of our time.
