Naval Architect / Engineer

At a glance

You’ll be joining a team that works on real-world projects, from the design office all the way to the shipyard. This is a full-time, permanent position (40 hours/week) with flexible scheduling, group insurance, and a retirement plan.

Flexible work location: we’ll determine it together based on the role, projects, and your profile. Navanex operates from multiple locations.

Note: Occasional on-site presence (shipyard) is required, depending on project assignments.

To apply: send your resume to info@navanex.ca (and a portfolio if you have one).

If You Like Taking the Lead, You’re in the Right Place

We’re looking for a senior Naval Architect / Marine Engineer who enjoys making technical decisions that have a real impact on the vessel—not just on a file.

In this role, you’ll take ownership of complex analyses (stability, loads, structural design), approve drawings, drive project progress, and support clients through to construction. You’ll serve as a technical reference for assigned projects.

The Navanex Work Environment

We’re a small, close-knit team. We work hard, but you’re never left on your own.

Things move quickly here: projects advance, priorities evolve, and we adapt together when needed.

We aim for strong performance—the kind where you feel challenged, supported, and can genuinely see projects moving forward.

We help each other out, keep things straightforward, and take pride in delivering solid, high-quality results.

About Navanex

Navanex is a firm specializing in naval architecture and marine engineering.

We stand out through our end-to-end approach: design, analysis, approval documentation, client support, and follow-up through construction at the shipyard.

Our mission: simplify naval architecture, design innovative vessels, and provide the maritime community with high-level engineering services.

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Perform load calculations, stability calculations, and structural scantling;
  • Conduct complete vessel stability analyses;
  • Support clients during vessel design and accompany them through construction;
  • Produce and validate technical drawings and approval documents, including submissions to classification societies;
  • Review and approve engineering drawings;
  • Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analyses;
  • Contribute to project management and, depending on your profile, mentor or guide team members.

Your profile

  • Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture (or equivalent education);
  • Licensed member of a Canadian provincial engineering association;
  • 5 to 10 years of relevant experience;
  • Experience in team leadership and project management;
  • Strong working knowledge of design software such as AutoCAD, Delftship, and Inventor (or equivalent);
  • French proficiency 4/5 (spoken and written) and English proficiency 4/5 (spoken and written);
  • You are structured, methodical, autonomous, and rigorous in your work

What sets you apart

  • Strong ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines;
  • Clear communicator, comfortable in a client-facing role;
  • Genuine interest in maritime operations and shipbuilding;
  • Sound judgment and a solution-oriented mindset when facing design or production challenges;
  • High attention to detail—your analyses and deliverables are solid, coherent, and easy to follow.

Working conditions

  • Permanent, full-time position (40 hours/week);
  • Competitive salary based on your profile;
  • Group insurance and retirement plan;
  • Flexible schedule with the option for part-time remote work.

What Does the Hiring Process Look Like?

  1. Send us your resume (portfolio optional). A cover letter is optional—brief notes in your resume are sufficient if you wish.
  2. A 15–20 minute introductory call to get to know each other, align expectations, and answer your questions.
  3. Main interview: a practical, technical discussion about how you work, supported by concrete examples (drawings, models, projects).

Even if your background isn’t conventional, apply anyway. The first call is about exploring whether there’s a good mutual fit.
