18 Sep Navanex and Chantier Naval Forillon revolutionize fishing with the San Marco VII
Chantier Naval Forillon (CNF), in close collaboration with Navanex, has once again distinguished itself in the shipbuilding sector with the delivery of the San Marco VII. This multi-species fishing boat, equipped with the most advanced technologies, raises the bar for quality with this new vessel that has been highly optimized and thoroughly designed by Navanex.
Pushing back the boundaries with advanced technologies
The San Marco VII project began in 2022 and has been a stimulating adventure for the Navanex and CNF teams, which have sought to innovate at every design and construction stage. Jean-David Samuel, President and CEO of CNF, points out that the innovations are not only visible in the improved shape of the hull and the built-in stabilizers but also in the optimized energy management, making the vessel less energy-consuming and therefore, more environmentally friendly.
All the latest systems for preserving the quality of the fish on board, including “slurry ice”, chilled water, a large insulated fish hold with freezing plates, and isothermal tanks, have been developed to maximize the freshness of the catch and improve operational efficiency. Everything has also been put in place to facilitate work on the fishing deck, making each task easier to perform. In addition, the safety of the fishermen and the organization of the working and living areas were given careful thought during the design phase.
A fruitful collaboration
The development of the San Marco VII benefited from close collaboration with Pêcheries Michel Turbide, which played an active role in improving sailing performance and the fishing experience. The cooperation between CNF and Pêcheries Michel Turbide was a natural one, the owner accepted the majority of the proposals that the team wanted to make as improvements to optimize the vessel.
Marco Turbide, owner of Pêcheries based in the Magdalen Islands (Îles-de-la-Madeleine), expressed his satisfaction: ‘Working with the CNF team was a rewarding experience, characterized by attentive listening and mutual trust.’
Notable innovations
The San Marco VII stands out for its performance and thoughtful design. It has refrigerated water holds for crab fishing and a sophisticated liquid ice production system to ensure optimum fish preservation. Olivier Blais-Brousseau, project manager, says, ‘Every decision made during construction was geared towards innovation, enriching our knowledge for future builds.’
Celebration and future prospects
The delivery of the San Marco VII was celebrated with a traditional blessing, a moment of joy shared by the entire Navanex team, CNF, and the ship’s owner. This tradition symbolised the breaking of a bottle of champagne on the hull, marking not only a successful conclusion but also hope and optimism for Mr Turbide’s future fishing adventures.
Conclusion
The San Marco VII represents a significant milestone for Navanex and CNF, illustrating their commitment to innovation and efficiency. This exemplary project demonstrates that strategic partnerships and a commitment to innovation can transform traditional practices and steer them toward a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future.
With the San Marco VII, Navanex and CNF are laying the foundations for the future of sustainable fishing, where technology and respect for the environment go hand in hand.
